Credit reports in the Lifecycle Management Suite use a coherent layout with column titles abbreviating commonly used lending terms. Data items are formatted to line up vertically with right-justified amount fields for easy reading.
This document focuses on the most significant three areas of the credit report, which are Tradelines, Public Records and Summary Information. These areas are items that lenders view as most important.
A tradeline represents the credit line extended from the creditor to the borrower and is identified by a particular account.
Tradelines convey the following information for each account:
In the tradeline heading below, three lines of heading information are displayed, as well as three corresponding lines of detail information for the tradeline. There can also be added lines that represent footnotes of English text.
![]() |
Tradelines appear in the Open and Closed sections of the credit report based on the Account Type and Balance data, in addition to the Closed indicator value. This can cause Closed accounts to appear in the Open section of the report and vise versa. For example, once the balance has reached zero on fixed monthly payment type contracts, such as Installment and Mortgage accounts, the account can be assumed to be closed, without it being formally reported as such, and so would be listed with the open tradelines. |
Src refers to the source bureau for the tradeline.
Source Bureaus may include:
![]() |
An Asterisk (*) following the source bureau code indicates that the identified bureau was the source of derogatory information. For example, EFX* suggests that there is a late payment, or other derogatory status, reflected in the tradeline and that the derogatory information came from Equifax. The Asterisk (*) is a helpful way to scan reports for derogatory information, while the Bureau source is helpful in viewing a report drawn from multiple bureaus merged together. For example, EFX*, EXP indicates that the information from the tradeline came from both Equifax and Experian, however it was only Equifax that was the source of any derogatory information. |
Creditor Name refers to the name of the creditor providing the information to the bureau.
For example, Sears, Macys or American Express.
Industry refers to the operating industry of the creditor.
For more information on industry types, refer to the Industry Codes section within the Appendix.
Product refers to the product or service extended by the creditor.
For example, auto financing or bank credit card.
For more information on product types, refer to the Product Codes section within the Appendix.
In 1977, the Equal Credit Opportunity Act (ECOA) was declared a law. ECOA requires that each item in a credit file reflect whether it belongs to an individual or their spouse. That distinction has evolved to indicate whether the credit information belongs to an individual or is held jointly with someone else.
As a result, INDV reflects an individual’s account and JOINT reflects an account that is joint with someone else.
![]() |
In a typical joint file, the subjects reflect both an individual and that individual’s spouse. However, it is possible for an individual to share a tradeline with someone else other than the spouse. In these cases, the JOINT distinction does not necessarily mean that the tradeline is shared with the spouse. |
A list of ECOA possibilities are displayed below:
ECOA Code | Description |
INDV | Individual |
COMKR | Co-Maker |
AUTH | Authorized User |
BHALF | On owner’s behalf |
DECSD | Deceased person |
JOINT | Joint |
MAKER | Maker |
SHARE | Shared Account |
TERM | Consumer no longer associated with this item |
Idnt refers to the sequence number of the individuals that are included in the credit report. Each unique individual is represented by an Idnt number. When reviewing a tradeline, the Idnt points to the consumer’s name in the identification section.
![]() |
An Idnt number of 0 represents data that is not specific to a particular individual. |
In a joint file, there can be more than one subject included in the report. Some bureaus may return other individuals that could be considered as matches. Information items related to the other individuals are known as fragmented files.
![]() |
Fragmented files may be the same person as the primary subject and often are. |
Open refers to the month and year the tradeline was opened.
![]() |
In an instance where the exact month and year are unknown by the bureau, the format 5/YR or 10/YR may be used to indicate a time period exceeding five or ten years. |
Balance refers to the credit amount remaining on the account.
Rptd refers to the most recent month and year the tradeline was reported to the credit bureau. This can be used to identify how current the tradeline information is.
![]() |
If the exact month and year are unknown by the bureau, the format 5/YR or 10/YR may be used to indicate a time period exceeding five or ten years. |
